Marta Soderberg Howard, violist, performs in groups throughout the Washington, DC area and the Carolinas, from the Folger Consort to the Cathedral Choral Society, in venues ranging from Washington National Cathedral and Signature Theatre to assisted living facilities around Northern Virginia. A regular contributor to performance projects with The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra and The Washington Bach Consort, Dr. Howard also performs with Assisi Performing Arts, a chamber music festival held each summer in the historic Umbrian hill town. A native of Duluth, Minnesota, she is a graduate with performance degrees from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the University of Wisconsin, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Iowa, and a veteran of summer festivals in Vermont, Aspen, Wisconsin, and Banff. Dr. Howard has nearly 40 years’ teaching experience at institutions including the Preucil School in Iowa City, the Cleveland Institute of Music/Case Western Reserve University, and Georgetown University, where she also headed up the chamber music program. She is frequently engaged as a competition judge, sectional coach and master class instructor. Dr. Howard currently teaches in her home studio in Vienna, VA, and as Adjunct Instructor at Sheridan College in Wyoming. Her amateur pursuits include studying viola da gamba, recorder, and baroque dance.
